A health awareness
programme, 'Signs, Symptoms and Care' will be organized by Aga Khan
University Hospital, Karachi (AKUH) to increases awareness for early
diagnosis and timely treatment of health problems at the Sheraton
Deira Hotel, Dubai on October 27, 2002 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
AKUH is the principal
teaching site of Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi, which is the
first private international university in Pakistan. The University
occupies a pivotal place within Aga Khan Development Network, a
private international development agency.
"Low
Back Pain" and "Osteoporosis" are the titles of the presentations.
The speakers are Dr. Riaz Hussain Lakdawala, Assistant Professor
of Orthopaedic Surgery and Dr. Kamran Hameed, Associate Professor
in the Department of Medicine at the AKUH.
Dr. Riaz Hussain Lakdawala did his FCPS (Orthopaedic Surgery) in
1993 from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He did his
training in orthopaedic surgery from Aga Khan University Hospital,
Karachi. He has special interest in spine surgery. He
was awarded faculty development awards for fellowships at Singapore
and Turkey. He has spoken at a number of national and international
seminars on low back pain
Dr. Kamran Hameed did
his FCPS (Medicine) in 1992 from College of Physicians and Surgeons
Pakistan. Dr. Hameed is Associate
Professor in the Department of Medicine at Aga Khan University, Karachi. He has over 10 years experience
in Rheumatology.
He was awarded
faculty development award for his training in the United Kingdom.
He has published a number
of articles in leading national and international medical journals.
In the lecture Dr. Riaz Hussain
Lakdawala will discuss about the causes of back pain, when to seek
professional help and what doctors can do. Dr. Kamran Hameed will
discuss about osteoporosis.
The programme will
include a question answer session in which participants would be
encouraged to ask questions.
