National Quit Smoking Day will be observed in Pakistan on the 1st
of Ramazan. To counsel smokers on how to quit smoking, a seminar
is being held at Aga Khan University, Karachi on October 12, 2004
at 2:00 PM at Lecture Hall 2.
Experts will deliver lectures and recommend methods of quitting
tobacco, which is known to be responsible for 100,000 deaths per
year in Pakistan. Globally, some five million people die every year
as a result of smoking. Lung and mouth cancer are the two leading
causes of cancer deaths in Pakistan and both are considered to be
strongly associated with tobacco use.
