The AKU Inter-Medical College Cricket Tournament 2001

Aga Khan University Inter-Medical College Cricket Tournament 2001

The Sports Committee of Aga Khan University Medical College organized its 2nd Cricket Tournament in the months of April and May 2001.  This tournament was organized amongst the medical institutions of Karachi.  Teams from Karachi Medical and Dental College, Jinnah Medical and Dental College (JMDC), Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry, Ziauddin Medical University and Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU) took part in the tournament.

The matches, starting from April 2001, were played on league basis. Overall, 11 matches were played.  The finals of the AKU Inter-Medical College Cricket Tournament were played between JMDC and AKU on May 11, 2001. 

JMDC won the toss and invited AKU to bat.  AKU made 173 for the loss of 5 wickets in the designated 25 overs, and, in reply to which JMDC could make only 111 in 20.0 overs.  AKU won the match by 62 runs.

Dr. Robert F. Maudsley, Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Aga Khan University, was the Chief Guest, who distributed prizes amongst the top performers.  The winner Trophy was awarded to AKU Medical College and the Runner-up to JMDC. 

Besides these, other awards such as Man-of-the-Match, Man-of-the-Tournament and Best Batsman and Best Bowler, were also distributed.
