: Twenty Public Health Nurses
received their certificates from Dr
Sahib Jan Badar, Project Director, Women's Health, Sindh, upon successful
completion of the Public Health Nursing Training Programme (PHNTP)
conducted by Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON), during
a ceremony held at the University campus.
Dr
Sahib Jan Badar, who was the Chief Guest of the programme, emphasised the importance
of the Public Health Nurses' role in reducing the maternal and child morbidity
and mortality, and improving their quality of life. She observed that these
20 Public Health Nurses would only be able to attain this goal with the support
and cooperation from political, religious and community leaders in their respective
districts. She also remarked that individuals, families and communities will
benefit from the work of these trained Public Health Nurses.
Dr
Yasmin Amarsi, Dean AKU-SON and Co-advisor, PHNTP, in her welcome address appreciated
the initiatives of Women Health Project of Ministry of Health for providing
funding for this training programme. She mentioned that this is a significant
event for nursing profession as 20 Public Health Nurses will be working with
the community at district level focusing on preventive and promotive care.
On
this occasion, Dr Rozina Karmaliani, Director MScN Programme AKU-SON, and Co-advisor
to the PHNTP, acknowledged the collaborative efforts of faculty members from
AKU-SON, University's Department of Community Health Sciences and Institute
for Educational Development, Aga Khan Health Services Pakistan, Public Health
School Karachi, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital and Health and Nutrition Development
Society (HAND) in making this training programme a success.
At
the end of the programme, Dr David Taylor, Acting Provost of Aga Khan University,
presented a memento to the Chief Guest.
