Well-known
poet Ahmad Faraz will speak on "My Poetic Experience" at Aga Khan
University (AKU) Auditorium on Wednesday, 28 April 2004 from 4:00
to 6:00 PM. Ahmad Faraz ranks amongst the progressive poets of Pakistan
who have achieved noteworthy success and popularity throughout the
world of Urdu literature. His poetic expressions are direct and soulful.
Many of Faraz's poems revolve around socio-political truth, reflecting
the great 19th century romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley's truism,
that "Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world". It is
said that Faraz knows the art of maintaining equilibrium between the
theme and its aesthetic expressions. Moreover, like the Chilean poet
Pablo Neruda, the Spanish firebrand Federico Garcia Lorca and Pakistan's
Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmad Faraz is able to articulate the feelings and
thoughts of the masses. His poetry remains both traditional and liberal,
and he manages to equally mesmerise the audience with the rendition
of his romantic as well as the revolutionary verses.
AKU's primary mission is the development of quality human resources
that are trained to respond to the unique needs of the developing
world. This talk by Ahmad Faraz at AKU is part of the University's
special lecture series, featuring lectures by prominent personalities
with the aim of providing students with a broad-based education to
enrich their understanding and appreciation of the humanities and
social sciences. The interaction with distinguished personalities
also benefits the faculty, staff and the general public.
