During their visit to Pakistan, Mr. Askar Aitmatov, Advisor to the President
of the Kyrgyz Republic, and his delegation visited Aga Khan University
and discussed with Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, President of AKU, the progress
of the University of Central Asia, which is also being sponsored by His
Highness the Aga Khan. Mr. Aitmatov was very impressed with AKU facilities
and systems, which ensured that the highest standards of education were
maintained, and especially with the students admission process, which
is merit based, irrespective of class, colour, creed or gender. The delegation
also visited Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development
at the University's Karimabad campus, which is a role model for the new
school in Osh that is being built by Aga Khan Development Network.
The delegation also had deliberations with the leadership of the Aga Khan
Educational Service, Pakistan.
