AKU-ISMC Students Participate in Interfaith Conference at Windsor Castle

From 11th to 13th of April four AKU-ISMC students participated in a two day conference entitled ‘Inter Faith Relations’, organised by the Commonwealth Scholarship Foundation, held at Windsor Castle. The conference brought together various scholars to discuss interfaith relations in a variety of different contexts, including Canon Guy Wilkinson, National Inter Faith Relations Adviser and Secretary for Inter Faith Relations to the Archbishop of Canterbury and AKU-ISMC Professor Modjtaba Sadria.
The students participated in a morning session led by Maleiha Malik, Lecturer in Law at King’s College London, talked about Britain's 'Other' Citizens: Accommodating Religious Minorities and Post-colonial Legacies in Contemporary Britain, and Dr. Adam Dinham, Director of the Faiths and Civil Society Unit, whose paper was titled, Faiths as Villains and Heroes – why governments care about faiths.
The conference concluded with lecture by the Venerable Dr. Michael Ipgrave, Archdeacon of Southwark who on the topic of imperative of interfaith relations – Learning to Value Our Differences. After dinner a panel discussion about ‘Religious Opposition to Evolution in America’ was jointly facilitated by Marshall Scholars Jamie Gianoutsos, University of Cambridge and Steve Brusatte, University of Bristol.
Participation of AKU-ISMC students in events such as the Inter Faith Relations conference at Windsor Castle enables them to interact with scholars and thinkers from a broad range of academic disciplines and backgrounds.
