AKU-ISMC hosts visit by Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs

On Saturday the 1st of December, AKU-ISMC hosted a visit by Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed, his wife, First Secretary Stacey Foo and the Singapore Deputy High Commissioner to the UK Zainal Arif Mantaha.

Present at this meeting were the Director of the Institute for Ismaili Studies (IIS) Azim Nanji, Aga Khan Foundation - UK CEO Aly Nazerali, and from AKU-ISMC, the Director Abdou Filali Ansary, and Coordinator, Planning and Academic Development, Razia Raghavji.

During the visit, Mr Nazerali gave an overview of the Aga Khan Development Network, highlighting its three focus areas of economic, social and cultural development. Professor Filali Ansary introduced the work of the Aga Khan University and the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, while Professor Nanji spoke about the work of the IIS.

The Minister, who participated in the recent Aga Khan Award for Architecture Ceremony, noted his appreciation for the contributions of His Highness the Aga Khan to cultural development and the Network's significant impact on development. The Minister acknowledged that the greatest value of the Network was not simply its financial support for activities, but its commitment of human resources to ensure the long term sustainability of any initiative it undertakes.

The visit by the Minister served as an excellent opportunity to share ideas and to learn more about social and cultural development in Singapore.
