Based in London, the Aga Khan University Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (AKU-ISMC) aims to strengthen research and teaching about the heritage of Muslim societies, giving specific attention to the challenges these societies face in contemporary settings. December 2009 Cluster Launch for Publications AKU-ISMC is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a cluster launch for its publications at the Ismaili Centre, Burnaby, Canada. This will be the first of a programme of ongoing cluster events to be held across several locations to launch the institute’s 3 new series of academic publications. MA in Muslim Cultures The application process for the September 2009 MA in Muslim Cultures is now closed. Information and an application form for entry in September 2010 will be made available by the summer of 2009.
Current Short Courses Music in Muslim Contexts: This one day course focuses on traditions that have rarely received the attention they deserve. Consisting of classroom sessions as well as an interactive workshop, the course will begin with a focus on historical issues related to music in various Muslim contexts.
