Course on Issues in Health Professions Education HPE (ARC – I)
(Additional Required Course for MHPE)

Pre requisite: ISC-HPE

 

Duration:

10 weeks (total)
2 weeks: Pre-reading
1 week: Face-to-face full-time intensive component
7 weeks: Distance learning & assignment completion

Aims and Salient Features
The course will allow the participant to discuss and understand issues in Health Professions Education, globally and in the region, focusing on what steps need to be taken to address the issues.

The salient features of the course are:

  • Focus on issues in Health Professions Education at international, national and local level; the challenges and strategies to overcome these challenges.
  • Development of a common understanding of issues.
  • Activities to apply strategies at individual and institutional levels for addressing these problems.
  • Continuing Education (CE): 5 credit points

Eligibility Criteria

  • Health care professionals in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Proven interest/responsibility in HPE to be evaluated by personal statement and resume.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the responsibilities of accreditation bodies, universities, medical colleges, programmes, departments and sections.
  • Relate the causes of the major issues in HPE around the world with the respective geopolitical, socioeconomic and other reasons; especially problems in governance.
  • Identify the specific issues in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical, nursing and other health care professionals' education worldwide, in the region and in Pakistan.
  • Enhance output and achieve outcomes by application of teamwork, negotiation, work ethics, balancing service-education-research to their own situation.
  • Develop a personal vision, mission and methodology for addressing the issues identified.
  • Identify the benefits and constraints of inter-professional education and plan for its use in their own situation.
