Advanced Level Course in Programme Evaluation and Leadership (ALC-PE&L)

Pre requisite: ISC-HPE

Durations:

12 weeks: two-week part-time pre-reading, two-week full-time intensive face-to-face component, eight weeks of part-time self study and distance learning assignment.

Aim:

The course focuses on programme evaluation, critique, development of a plan for improvement or change, and leadership initiatives for such a change. Emphasis is on relating principles of educational management to the practice in participant's own institution and helping them to reflect in order to become a more effective leader.

Eligibility:

• Health care professionals in Medicine / Nursing / Dentistry /Allied Health
• Pre-requisite: HPE-100: Introductory Short Course (ISC) in HPE
• Proven interest / responsibility in HPE

Educational Strategies & Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• develop a vision, mission and strategic plan for educational management and leadership
• initiate and sustain organisational change
• mobilise and effectively manage the needed resources
• select and justify the use of a model / approach for educational programme evaluation develop a plan for evaluating an educational programme using evaluation standards

Assessment

• In the face-to-face component, assessment will be through individual and group assignments /presentations and end of course assessment.
• Two separate Distance Learning Assignments, each of 2000-3000 words will be required within 8 weeks of course completion. These will be based on identifying challenges in their own institutions with solutions supported by wide literature searches. One assignment will focus on monitoring and programme evaluation and the other on leadership in HPE .
