Advanced Level Course in Assessment (ALC-A) 

Course credits: 5

Pre requisite: ISC-HPE

Durations: 10 weeks: 2 week part-time pre-reading, 2 weeks full-time intensive face-to-face component, and 6 weeks of part-time self study, distance learning and assignment.

Aims and Objectives: To provide in-depth background of purpose, design, implementation and evaluation of assessment strategies appropriate to educational outcomes and context of Health Professions Education (HPE).

Eligibility:

• Healthcare professionals in Medicine / Nursing / Dentistry /Allied.
• Pre-requisite: HPE-100: Introductory Short Course (ISC) in HPE
• Proven interest / responsibility in HPE

Educational Strategies & Learning Outcomes:

The course will be highly participatory, offered through interactive plenary sessions, individual and group presentations, small group activities and distance learning assignments.

By the end of the course participants will be able to apply principles of best assessment practices reported in literature for;

• developing assessment in line with table of specification;
• selecting and developing practical and innovative
• assessment tools;
• linking feedback to assessment  to enhance  learning;
• utilizing the principles of validity, reliability and
• generalizability for educational research

Assessment

• In the face-to-face component, assessment will be through individual and group assignments/presentations, practical work and end-of-course assessment.
• In the distance learning component, assessment will be based on completion and grading of a 3,000-word individual written assignment.
