Department for Educational Development

Message from Dean Medical College

The Department for Educational Development (DED) started as a resource and support for Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC).  Its main goal is faculty development for improved and innovative education at AKU Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) to promote teaching excellence.

Over the years DED has expanded its scope and activities to include the School of Nursing at AKU and AKU programmes in East Africa . It also acts as a national resource when required. It adopts a proactive role in advising and guiding the faculty regarding the structure and sequencing of the curriculum, providing academic and logistical support for examinations, and initiating and facilitating the development of learning resources for students at FHS.

It is currently working towards introducing an Advanced Diploma in Health Professions Education (AD-HPE) leading to a Masters degree in Health Professions Education (MHPE).

The department plays a key role in creating an environment at AKU in which education of health professionals is valued as an integral and essential component of the academic mission of FHS and is striving to build the capacity of health professions educators to meet the ever increasing requirements of Pakistan and the region.
