Postgraduate Medical Education Programmes 2008

Aga Khan University invites applications for its Postgraduate Medical Education Programmes starting November 1, 2008.

Internship
All medical graduates, including those expecting their MBBS final results by October 10, 2008 are eligible to apply.

Residency
Applications are invited for the following Residency programmes; a candidate can apply for only one Residency programme at a time.   

3-year programmes: Adult Cardiology; Gastroenterology; Nephrology; Neurology and Pulmonary Medicine.

4-year programmes: Community Medicine; Family Medicine; Internal Medicine; Neurosurgery; Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Operative Dentistry; Ophthalmology; Orthodontics; Orthopaedic Surgery; Paediatrics and Child Health; Paediatric Surgery; Radiation Oncology; and Urology.

5-year programmes: Anaesthesiology; Chemical Pathology; Diagnostic Radiology; Emergency Medicine; General Surgery; Haematology, Histopathology; Microbiology; and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.

Flexible Residency Training Programme:

The University has a Flexible Residency Training Programme in the fields of Anaesthesia, Haematology, Medicine and Paediatrics for candidates who are unable to train full time. One position in each of the fields is available. Women are encouraged to apply.

Fellowhip
Entrance into Fellowship (post-residency advanced training) is being offered in the following sub-specialties.

1-year programmes: Diagnostic Neuro-Imaging; Pain Management; and Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

2- year programmes: Breast and General Surgery; Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiology; Clinical Neurophysiology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine; Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism; Foeto-maternal Medicine; General Surgery; Intensive Care Medicine; Neonatal Paediatrics; Paediatiatric Haematology/Oncology and Paediatric Neurology. 

3-year programmes: Medical Oncology; Paediatric Cardiology; and Paediatric Infectious Diseases.

4-year programmes: Cardiac Surgery.

Admission Information

It is also available from the Admission Office, Medical College, Aga Khan University, P.O. Box 3500, Stadium Road, Karachi 74800, Pakistan for Rs.100 payable by cash or through a pay order/bank draft in favour of Aga Khan University drawn on a bank in Karachi if requesting by post in Pakistan.

The Admission Office is open from Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. 

Application material will also be available from all branches of Soneri Bank in Pakistan from June 30, 2008.

The last date for the receipt of applications is July 24, 2008.

Admission Test
All candidates for the Internship and Residency programmes will be required to write an Admission Test on August 24, 2008 to be held simultaneously in Karachi and Rawalpindi. Details will be notified through the admit card. The test will be used to shortlist candidates for interviews.

There is no admission test for entrance into Fellowship training.  Selection will be based on qualifications, past experience and interviews.

Applicants selected from training programmes in other institutions must submit a No Objection Certificate or a copy of the resignation approved by the supervising consultant before joining.
