Goal
The goal of this workshop is to provide educators with the skills required to implement feasible, defensible, and appropriate passing scores for both written (MCQ-type) and clinical performance examinations.
Objectives
This workshop will explore the purposes for standard setting, compare and contrast different standard-setting approaches, and analyze their advantages and disadvantages for written and performance examinations. Participants will have the opportunity to practice with real data and reflect on their own standard-setting activities in the context of the procedures and methods presented in this workshop.
Workshop Strategy
Interactive mini-lectures and brief, focused explanations interspersed with the activities will provide participants with the key knowledge needed for setting standards. Participants will break into groups to set standards for 1) 10-item MCQ exam, and 2) a standardized patient case using different methods. Discussion, brainstorming and debriefing will focus on practical “how-to” issues of setting standards in local health professions institutions.

Limited seats – first come first served. (30 participants in each workshop)

Registration for non-AKU Faculty will begin from May 24, 2008.
