Academic Qualification and Training

Dr Shariq Khoja works as Assistant Professor, department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) and Coordinator eHealth Programme for Aga Khan University Hospital. He has an extensive background and interest in using eHealth technologies to facilitate health care services and education. His research interests focus on creating evidence and policies to guide the implementation of eHealth in developing countries. Dr Khoja is currently leading the project called PAN Asian Collaboration for evidence-based e-Health Adoption and Application (PANACeA), which supports collaborative research in 17 Asian countries to create evidence for eHealth implementation. Dr Khoja chairs the eLearning Technical Committee, and is a member of the eHealth task force and Skills lab group at Aga Khan University (AKU). Dr Khoja is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary, Canada.

Dr Khoja is a medical graduate of AKU from the class of 1996. He later worked with AKU and Aga Khan Health Services, Pakistan (AKHS,P) on health systems projects in the northern areas of Pakistan and the province of Sindh. Dr Khoja later moved to Canada and joined the University of Calgary to pursue his MSc in Telehealth and PhD in e-Health from the Global e-Health Research and Training Programme. His doctoral thesis focused on developing and validating 'e-Health readiness assessment tools' for the health care institutions in developing counties. Dr Khoja also participated in the Health informatics PhD and post-doc Strategic Training programme (CHPSTP) funded by Canadian Institute of Health Research, between 2004 and 2006. He received funding from several International agencies for his thesis, and also won an award from International Development Research Center (IDRC).
