The Centre of English Language (CEL) activities are directed towards improving the English language proficiency of Aga Khan University (AKU) staff and students in oral and written communication. CEL identifies the level of competence of the learners, and designs and provides specific instructions as needed. CEL offers English Language programmes to Aga Khan University School of Nursing (AKU-SON), Aga Khan University Medical College (AKU-MC) and Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi (AKUH, K). Additional short courses and workshops are designed to cater to the language needs of external clients.

Research and Seminar

In addition to its teaching programmes, CEL is also involved in other professional activities such as research, testing and consultancy. CEL is presently engaged in a large-scale national research project, as well as small-scale action research projects. English and Higher Education: Future Directions 2003 and Language, Culture and Identity: Issues and Challenges 2005. CEL plans to hold more international seminars and conferences for the promotion of English Language Teaching in future.
