AKUH,N Surgery Department has facilities for day, microsurgery and other surgical
procedures. The Department covers all the major sub-specialties of surgery:
- Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery
- General surgery
- Gynaecology and Obstetrics
- Maxillofacial Surgery (reconstructive)
- Neuro Science Surgery (Brain nerves and its enclosures)
- Oncology (Malignant tumors)
- Ophthalmology (Eyes)
- Orthopaedics (Traumatology)
- Urology
Oral And Maxillofacial Surgery
This encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the face, jaws and mouth,
salivary glands and jaw joints including:
- Acquired defects from trauma
- Birth defects (cleft lip and palate)
- Cancer affecting face and jaw
- Face and jaw deformities
- Facial growth disturbance following cancer surgery
- Impacted and malpositioned teeth
- Salivary gland and jaw joints infections and diseases
- Soft tissue and bone injuries
Plastic Surgery
Services offered include:
- Burns management
- Excision of keloids
- Face lifts
- Liposuction (reduction of fat tissues)
- Revision of skin scars.
 Day Surgery
The Day Surgery Centre allows patients to undergo surgery as an outpatient. This
way the patient need not be admitted to the hospital, is closely monitored by a
team of health care professionals and discharged the same day. It minimises health
costs associated with hospitalisation and the patient recovers in the comfort of
his/her home and receives follow up treatment as an outpatient.
Day Surgical Packages
The procedures listed in the packages are all inclusive and no additional costs
will be incurred by the patient from the time of admission to discharge. It is a
one time fixed expense with no financial surprises whose prices include:
- Surgeons fee
- Anesthesia fee
- Operating room charges
- Medical & surgical supplies
- Anesthetic and other medications
- Prosthetic materials
- Day care bed charges
- Biopsy charges for histopathology
- Any other miscellaneous charges
Day Surgical Packages Procedures
- Unilateral Inguinal Hernia;
- Haemorrhoidectomy;
- Fistula in Ano-Fistulotomy/Fistulectomy (simple and not complex);
- Fissure in Ano-EUA and lateral Sphincterotomy;
- Excision of moderate size lumps (40 minunte procedure): Breast Lump, Lipomas, Lymph
node Biopsy, Ganglion and any moderate size lump;
- Excision of minor lumps (20 minute procedure): Sebaceous Cyst, Skin lesions like
Warts, Moles, Skin Tags and others;
- Check Cystoscopy/Simple Urethral Dilatation;
- Diagnostic Cystoscopy;
- Circumcision;
- In-growing Toe Nail (unilateral).

Laparascopic Surgery (Minimal Access Surgery)
Hospital surgeons are equipped to perform non-invasive surgery by laparoscope (visual
examination of the inside of the abdomen), minimising hospital stay, ensuring quicker
and a less painful recovery and reduced costs without extensive operation scars.
