attention and monitoring, for example, directly after major operations. Nursing care
is tailor made and planned for each individual patient’s needs.
Nenonatal Intensive Care Unit
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is two bed Unit where the nurse-patient ratio is
1:1. Critically-ill and premature babies are admitted into this Unit, from within
the Hospital as well as outside.
Being a University Hospital, the critical areas units endeavour to meet and surpass the
challenge of providing quality and evidence-based critical care to all the patients. With the latest
equipment including ventilators, cardiac monitors and invasive monitoring devices. AKUH,N also has both conventional and continuous renal replacement therapy dialysis machines.
To ensure and support evidence-based practice, the Unit has several evidence-based
critical care protocols in place. There are also ongoing continuous medical education
sessions for both the nurses and doctors.
