Consulting Clinics
Overview
The consulting clinics at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH,N) are specialised clinics managed by experienced, motivated, competent and dedicated team of consultants and nurses. In an effort to bring the services closer to the people, the AKUH,N has a total of 43 clinics on-campus and five satellite clinics in different parts of Nairobi. The clinics comprises of the five specialties and sub specialities, listed below:
Medicine:
- Cardiology;
- Internal Medicine;
- Nephrology;
- Neurology;
- Haematology;
- Oncology;
- Gastroenterology/liver;
- Endocrinology;
- Rheumatology;
- Dermatology;
- Dietetics;
- Psychiatry;
- Chest Clinic;
- Diabetic Clinic; and
- One Stop Medical Clinic.
At all the clinics, a qualified, competent nurse remains with the patient and offers guidance while maintaining strict confidentiality and patient dignity. The staff also shares health information messages for improving the patients’ quality of life.
A Diabetic or Medical clinic patient, gets reviewed by a dedicated team comprising a specialist physician, nurse, pharmacist, counsellor, dietician and a health educator in addition to an ophthalmologist.
Gynaecology:
- General Gynaecology clinic;
- Gynaecology Oncology clinic;
- Colposcopy clinic and the Fertility clinic.
In all of these clinics, nurses assist in attending to patients with reproductive health related problems.
Surgery:
- Neurosurgery;
- General surgery;
- Orthopaedics;
- Plastic surgery;
- Urology;
- Vascular surgery;
- Maxillofacial surgery;
- ENT;
- Ophthalmology services.
Nurses assess patients and assist doctors during procedures and give patients information on how to manage their conditions at home, thereby ensuring deliverance of quality care.
Paediatrics:
- Neurology;
- Gastroenterology;
- Neonatology;
- Cardiology;
- Nephrology;
- Surgical;
- Respiratory disorders.
Nursing care is tailor made and planned for each individual patient to suit their special needs. The clinic is located at the Paediatric Unit to provide an ambience that meets the needs of these young patients.
The team o regularly organises and participates in health camps in order to meet the health care needs of the community. All nurses are trained in Basic Life Support and are the first to respond in an emergency situation in the Doctors Plaza Building, which houses over 80 doctors.
