Q. I have a prescription/laboratory request from my doctor. Can I bring the request
and access Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi’s (AKUH,N) services?
A. Yes. Anyone with a prescription or laboratory request from a qualified medical
practitioner can access the Hospital services including its Physiotherapy, X-ray
and Dental services.
Q. Is the quality of care provided in the private wing similar to the general ward
services?
A. The Hospital's policy ensures reliable, quality and the best care for all patients
in all wards. Doctors and nurses do rounds in both the private wing and general

Q. What is your Hospital's view on generic drugs?
A. The Hospital is guided by its mission of providing the best available cost effective
care to all patients. Only generic drugs approved by the Food and Drugs Administration
(FDA), United States or the British National Formulary (BNF), United Kingdom are
prescribed.
Q. How is being treated by AKUH,N doctors different from treatment by a private doctor?
A. The Hospital employs a team of resident doctors specialising in various disciplines,
clinical care, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery and paediatrics. Charges are
at fixed professional rates. Hospital patients benefit from a team-based approach
to clinical needs. The resident doctor is able to assess and refer medical conditions
to another doctor in the Hospital. Medical care from a private doctor means your
personal doctor will determine your treatment with his/her pre-determined fees.
Q. Can I access my medical records?
A. Patients can access their medical reports. All information is held in confidence
and cannot be released to any third party without a patient’s written expressed
consent.

Q. Will the cost of medical care increase when the Hospital acquires expensive new equipment?
A. No. The cost of hospital services will continue to remain the same despite advancement in services and equipment. These improvements are intended to improve the quality of care and better serve the needs of patients rather than for business enterprise.
Q. How can corporate clients keep track of Hospital medical expenses?
A. The Hospital provides itemised billing for all services rendered to individual patients. The frequency of billing can be agreed with the Hospital. In case of price changes, the Hospital does its best to inform clients prior to implementation. However, prices are subject to change without notice.

Q. Do I need to be affiliated to AKUH,N to refer my patients?
A. A formal affiliation is not required to refer patients to AKUH,N. For patient referrals or to apply for Hospital admitting and practicing privileges, please contact:

Q. Do you offer Continuing Medical Education (CME)?
A. CME programmes are designed to assist health care professionals keep abreast with the latest medical developments, clinical research and treatment by attending courses and medical conferences. At AKUH,N, CME is conducted every Thursday on a variety of subject areas.
