Cancer Services
Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) offers comprehensive cancer management services at the Ibn Zuhr Building.
Consulting Clinics:
Consultation services are offered for Adult and Paediatric Haematology (blood disorders), Medical Oncology (solid tumours), Surgical Oncology (surgical management of cancers) and Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy).
Adult and Paediatric Oncology/Haematology:
AKUH provides inpatient and outpatient services for diagnosing and managing all types of adult and paediatric cancers
Surgical Oncology:
Experienced and credentialed surgeons trained in surgical management of adult and paediatric cancers
Chemotherapy Day Care Services:
Separate Day Care facilities dedicated for administering chemotherapy to adult and paediatric age groups
Radiation Oncology:
State-of-the-art equipment and planning system ensures delivery of meticulously well-planned radiotherapy with highest level of precision and quality. The following equipments are used in this service:
- Two Linear Accelerators – Varian;
- Photon and Electron Energies;
- Multi-Leaf Collimation (MLC);
- Simulator - Varian Acuity;
- Eclipse Treatment Planning System;
- 3 Dimensional Conformal CT Planning;
- High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy.
Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT):
Fully equipped and state-of-the-art Bone Marrow transplantation Unit started performing Allogeneic and Autologous Transplants in June 2004 for various benign and malignant disorders. This is currently a four-bed facility with HEPA filters and Positive Pressure Ventilation.
Cancer Rehabilitation:
Rehabilitation services are available in both inpatient and outpatient setting. Home physiotherapy and home nursing care services are also available.
End of Life Care Programme:
Specialised Home nursing services for terminally ill patient to improve quality of life.
Cancer Support Group:
The group brings together patients and families from different backgrounds to help them in dealing with all types of issues faced by cancer patients and their loved ones. This group is also aggressively involved in promoting cancer awareness in the community.
