Family Medicine

Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) is the pioneer in introducing Family Medicine in Pakistan. The basic idea of the service is to provide affordable health care for the entire family, not only when they are sick, but also to help them remain healthy. The Family Medicine service at AKUH offers:

State-of-the-art outpatient medical care for you and your entire family:
Women's health screening service including antenatal care, pap smear breast examination;
Immunisation service- Hepatitis B and other vaccination for infants, young children and adults;
Preventive service (giving up smoking, cholesterol and weight reduction);
Health promotion and screening service for high blood pressure, hepatitis, diabetes, etc;
Minor surgical procedures available at the Community Health Centre (circumcision, incision and drainage, small excisions, toe-nail removal, skin biopsy, wart removal and joint injection);
Counseling service for self-relaxation, pain management and care for terminally ill and their families;
Family Planning service including Intra-Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD);
Pre-Employment - annual checkup and screening for employees.
Guidance and advice on all aspects (promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, etc.) of your health and that of your family.

A Family Physician Provides:

Comprehensive and expert outpatient care for your entire family - men, women, children and prenatal care. Most of the problems (90%) in all ages can be handled by a Family Medicine specialist. Some may require consultation with other carefully selected specialist;

The Family Medicine services have two locations at AKUH to serve your needs; the Consulting Clinics and the Community Health Centre. Walk-ins (patient without appointments) are also welcome and will be seen if time is available. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment for prompt service.
