Training Programmes
On-the-job Hospital Pharmacist Training Programme
Introduction
This course is developed and directed by the Department of Pharmacy Services, Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi (AKUH,K). The on-the job Pharmacist Trainee Programme is a unique feature of the department of Pharmacy. Since its inception in 1987, the programme has successfully trained well about 200 pharmacists, majority of whom have been inducted into the department as full time pharmacists. However, not all the trainees are recruited.
Goal
This training aims to provide Pharmacy interns with the practical skills of Pharmacy practice and molding them into effective and skilled work force.
Who Should Attend
Fresh Pharmacy graduates from all recognised colleges of Pharmacy. The students must have completed a 4 year Bachelor's Degree, or 5 years PharmD degree. Students awaiting results for the last semester of any of the two degrees may also apply.
At the same time, the criteria to appear for the merit test also includes a score of more than 60 percent or GPR of at least 2.5 obtained in all previous semesters.
Medium of Instruction
As English is the exclusive language of instruction, students must be comfortable to read, write and speak in English language.
Student's Evaluation
The student's learning is evaluated through marks obtained in multiple-choice questions (merit test paper) at the beginning of the course as well as on the basis of a panel interview.
Educational Strategies
The basic educational strategy will be accomplished through lectures, tutorials, evaluation tests, ward and satellite pharmacy rotations, and student projects.
Duration of the Course
The duration of the course is 12 months. Trainees are inducted in June and December every year. The sessions comprise from January to January and from July to July every year.
Tuition Fee/Stipend
The course is free of charge. The stipend offered to the students is Rs. 6200/month.
Department of Pharmacy does not provide lodging facilities. Selected out stationed students should arrange their own accommodation.

Merit test will be conducted on December 6, 2009, at Aga Khan University Medical College Lecture Halls # 1, 2 and 3 from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm.
