Hematology and Coagulation
Hematology department consists of three sub sections.
1. Routine:
This subsection deals in with the routine tests
such ascomplete blood count (CBC) which includes the
estimation of hemoglobin, RBCs, Platelets, WBCs and
differential. For complete blood count we use latest
coulter counter named STKs, which takes 150 ul of blood
and gives 22 parameters within a minute. This section
also performs Retic count, G6PD and ESR.
Now a days we are doing about 850 CBCs every day. This
section is also responsible for processing bone marrow
and bone trephine samples, which are finally reported
by hematologist.
2. Special:
This subsection deals with special tests such as
a. Hb Electrophoresis: using procedure based on HPLC.
b. Special Stains: PAS sudan black, LAP, Esterase and Iron.
c. HB A1C using Imx and Bio-Rad (HPLC based)
3. EIA:
This section deals with the analysis of serum for Hepatitis and HIV. Tests are performed on Axsym.
Hematology department consists of 19 Technologists, supervised by a Senior Assistant Manager and headed by hematologist.
Clinical Procedures:
Coagulation
The coagulation section is equipped with latest fully automated coagulation analyzer carryng out various haemostatic profiles within a very short time.
This section also perform thrombophilia screening and platelet function tests.
Like other sections of the laboratory it is also involved in external quality assurance programmes.
