URETHRA, ENDOCERVIX & PHARYNX FOR GONOCOCCAL INFECTION
Procedure:
Urethra
- In case of abundant exudate, a drop of the purulent discharge is collected with sterile swab and make a smear or thin film on the microscopic slide, take another swab and place it in the transport media.
- If no discharge is evident, the urethra is stripped towards the orifice to express some pus, a thin sterile swab is inserted 2-3cm into the urethra and rotated before being withdrawn.
- Place the swab in the transport medium.
Endocervix
- Place the patient in lithotomy position.
- Insert the well-lubricated speculum.
- Visualize the external os
- Insert a sterile swab 2-3cm into the cervical canal.
- Rotate the swab for to permit absorption of the cervical exudate.
- Place the swab in transport medium.
Pharynx
Swab the tonsillar crypts and the posterior wall of phayrnx Place the swab in transport media.
