Introduction
Aga Khan University
Hospital (AKUH) Clinical Laboratories started functioning
in October 1985. The Laboratory services are provided
on well equipped, highly automated, fully computerised
and professionally run faculty. The Laboratory provides
diagnostic services in the area of Hematology, Clinical
Chemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Molecular Pathology,
Blood Bank and transfusion services.
Accuracy and precision of
test are maintained by strict internal quality assurance
programme which is reviewed by consultants and supervisors
daily.
Laboratory is participating
in external quality assurance program by College of
American Pathologist (CAP) and Bio-Rad External
Quality Assurance Services (EQAS), USA quality assurance
programme and scored excellent. Hematology department
is also participating is National External Quality
Assurance (NEQAS), UK.
The sections also publishes
a regular pathology newsletter which provides an update
on new procedures and test in the Clinical Laboratories.
