Urology Section
The Section of Urology comprises of seven full-time and one part-time urologists. There is a blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm in the section and since its inception, it strives for excellence in service, teaching and research. This mix blend of faculty with individual strengths provides dynamism in the section.
Services
The Section of Urology is equipped with modern armamentarium to deal with a comprehensive spectrum of urological ailments. The diagnostic and therapeutic services encompass management of urinary tract infections, urolithiasis, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, urinary incontinence, infertility, uro-oncology, supra-renal neoplasms, urinary reconstruction in both men and women and specialised paediatric urological care. The wide range of endoscopic service includes percutaneous stone removal in addition to all modalities of endoscopic stone management and laparoscopic renal ablative and varicocele ligation surgery. Facilities for stone management include a state-of-the-art, dual image Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter.
Upcoming Services
The Laparoscopic Urology programme is under consolidation. The focus of the section on female Urology will provide an opportunity for women with urinary problems to be treated by trained female urologists.
Research Activities/Programmes
The Section is actively engaged in research activities and has about 130 original research publications to its credit. The main research themes include focus on Uro-oncology including bladder and prostate cancer, metabolic and management aspects of urolithiasis and reproductive medicine. The residents and students are actively engaged in the ongoing research projects in the section.
Educational Programmes/Undergraduate and Postgraduate Training
The section is engaged in teaching of undergraduate students of MBBS programme and postgraduate trainees for FCPS (General Surgery and Urology) and FRCS/MRCS accreditations. The training is structured with close supervision and attention of the faculty.
